United Cooperative Services (UCS) is a cooperative offering high-speed Internet to locals throughout rural Texas. Originally a rural electric cooperative in 1938, UCS is currently more than just an energy supplier; it also provides broadband internet connection for its members. UCS has over 300 employees and relies on fiber-optic and fixed wireless networks to deliver internet with up to 1 Gbps. This fast internet connection helps households in rural areas engage in activities such as video calling, streaming movies, working from home, and controlling smart devices, among others. UCS remains keen on the expansion of its internet networks and hence it is improving it through some investments. Over the latter decade, the co-op invested more than $100 million in upgrades which put its broadband branch the UCS Fiber Network past the 45,000 homes and businesses mark. UCS is the largest cooperative in Texas, providing gigabit internet to rural regions ignored by the main ISPs. Condo members have access to a cheap, fast connection that is important for learning, work, remote healthcare, and so on. UCS’s internet aids in connecting rural areas and offers the principal access point to several areas of Texas that may not otherwise have the opportunity to have a connection. Much like UCS’s power, its new mission is to provide needed services for the betterment of the members’ lives and their communities – the power and recently added broadband access.
