Project Mutual Telephone Internet (PMTI) is a nationwide nonprofit organization that was established in 2018 with the core aim of offering affordable high-speed internet in rural and low-income markets. PMTI was established by a group of telecom engineers and social activists who were feeling constraints on internet access in the majority he rural towns. The business model adopted by this organization is to team up with small local telephone cooperatives to take advantage of the existing telephone structures to offer fiber-optic internet linkages.
