Open Infra

Open Infra Internet is an open architecture model for the Internet proposed to facilitate open access, engagement, and experimentation. It is built on the foundations of openness, free access, application compatibility, decentralization, and the absence of central authorities. The Open Infra Internet aims at ensuring open and cheap broadband Internet availability for everyone, allowing permissionless innovations without central control points that can manipulate, ensuring no fast lanes are allowed, decentralizing the infrastructure and governance, and adopting open standards and integrated systems. These are community networks, open access fiber infrastructure, decentralized web technologies, open source software and hardware, open network elements, spectrum commons, mesh networks, and other new paradigms of interconnectedness. These assist in questioning the normal business model of the internet, which is a hierarchical system with a controlled top-down proprietary architecture. Open Internet means equal access to the fundamental Internet infrastructure and infrastructure components, as well as no limits to connectivity, innovation, and freedom of speech, increasing the power of local communities and the competition between players in the Internet space, as well as accelerating the deployment of new technologies and applications in the Internet. But, still, more policy, regulatory, and technological progress is required to make this vision of an open, accessible, and distributed World Wide Web encompassing all the people of the world a reality.
