WRTC is a telecommunications cooperative established for and owned by its members with service offerings that include high-speed internet, voice, video, and security in the western region of South Dakota. Originally established in 1950 as a telephone company with a mission of providing phone services for rural areas, WRTC has expanded its services to provide fiber optic internet services to over 9,000 members. WRTC provides Internet connectivity with a maximum speed of 1 Gbpsec coming from fiber-to-the-home networks. Though WRTC is a relatively small carrier, it offers extensive network coverage of over 2,800 square miles, ensuring that the internet service is fast and stable even in rural areas. This is a great plus to its members as they can stream videos, play games online, make video calls, and other activities without facing issues such as buffering or lags. WRTC as a nonprofit cooperative organization operates with the main aim of providing service to its members, not profit. WRTC has networked with local as well as national providers that can affordably provide for every budget type. They also pay support to the community development activities and occasions and they do this in their operational area.
