The Snowcloud Internet is an innovative new way to create a system of Internet for people. This is not like cables, towers, or satellites; rather, it uses a network of drones powered by solar that float in the stratosphere to transmit Internet connections to the ground. These drones are developed by the company Snowcloud and are slightly different from the above-mentioned drones or drones in general because they fly in a preprogrammed mode and are in the stratosphere around 20 km above the ground. They have solar panels as a power source, while they use wireless optical communication to link the physical world with the internet. A major benefit of stratospheric drones over ground infrastructure is their potential to deliver internet connectivity to hard-to-reach areas. The drones are capable of hovering above weather occurrences and geographical barriers to provide the locals with reliable, fast, and widespread internet connection, especially in areas of mountains, or islands where the connection is limited or unavailable. The drones assume the role of flying cell base stations, which spread wifi and cellular services around areas. Based on its business model, Snowcloud intends to create hundreds, if not thousands, of drones to deploy aerial and cloud internet services. Should it work, this atmospheric internet through solar-powered drone fleets could aid in narrowing the digital gap and connecting the remotest corners of the Earth.
