Texas CellNet is a regional WISP and has been providing wireless internet at broadband speed in certain parts of the Texas state. Started in 2006, CellNet now has its headquarters in Lubbock, Texas A wireless broadband service provider CellNet offers wireless internet connection to rural Texas by using wireless technology and their wireless broadband network. Texas CellNet on its part seeks to provide high-speed internet to the 18 % of the rural population in Texas. They provide wireless broadband services with cheap packages for home as well as business usage in West Texas and sections of the Texas Panhandle. Speeds are available starting from 3 Mbps for basic service offering up to 25 Mbps for premium consumers. As their dedicated towers are built one for each partner, the distance between them is approximately 30 miles, offering line-of-sight wireless transmission with fewer interruptions than satellite internet. Carter and Smith also state that each year they add to the number of underlain wireless networks in the rural Texas region. For those remaining unreachable, Texas CellNet lobbies in state and federal government for policies to address the lack of rural broadband connection. Starting from as little as ten counties in 2006, today, Texas CellNet has expanded its service to offer reliable fast internet service to over 60 counties in Texas.
