Stealth Broadband Internet is one company that provides wireless broadband Internet service to rural areas. Hansen Communications was started by three partners in 2004 to provide Internet services to households and commercial buildings that are not served by cable or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) providers. Wireless network is provided by Stealth Broadband and they support speeds up to 25 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload. The network uses the wireless spectrum which does not require a license to be issued, and the transmission equipment is fixed on communication towers. Through these towers, a small receiver located at the subscriber location interacts with to deliver a signal. This approach also eliminates physical barriers such as trees and terrain, which are known to complicate and be expensive when cables are being laid for wired broadband services. Stealth Broadband offers high-speed internet at an affordable price which many, especially those in the rural areas, consider because it does not tie them into an expensive long-term contract. The company is expanding its area; it has successfully provided broadband service to more than 40000 citizens in southwest Missouri. Focusing on the underprivileged areas that have not been catered to by conventional providers, Stealth Broadband is playing its part in solving the problem of a lack of internet connection.
