Roanoke Valley Broadband Authority Details:

Where connectivity has long been a challenge in the Virginia Roanoke region, the Roanoke Valley Broadband Authority (RVVA) was founded as a cooperative approach to offering fairly cost, stable, high-speed internet access. With a fiber optic infrastructure supplying high-speed internet, the Roanoke Valley Broadband Authority intends to narrow that difference. Under development, the network will connect around 1,500 homes and businesses throughout Roanoke, Botetourt, and Roanoke Counties by the end of 2022. The $28 million expected project is now possible thanks in large part to federal, state, and municipal subsidies as well as commercial partners. Once it is developed, the RVVA network will provide a connection more than 200 times faster than the FCC's basic broadband requirement. Living inside the RVVA service area, the users will therefore be offered the fiber-to-the-premises technology offering symmetric gigabit internet connection with unlimited capacity for around $70 per month. This fairly cost, fiber-to-the-home connectivity will allow employees, students, telemedicine services, streaming multimedia content, and other purposes. The RVVA wants to improve the development of economic possibilities and the quality of life in West Virginia by introducing the idea of an internet connection for digital access in the region. Going ahead, the RVVA intends to routinely install more fiber areas to link more homes with limited fiber access in the Roanoke Valley. Internet connectivity is a basic need for individuals to support their operations and developments in modern society; the RVVA is leading in providing this essential amenity.
