North East Fiber Internet (NEFI) is a regional fiber-optic internet service provider, determined to provide the rural areas of the Northeastern region of the United States with a much-needed high-speed and affordable internet connection. Established in 2018 in Bangor, Maine, NEFI employs fiber optic cable technology, hence offering high internet speeds of up to 1 Giga per second, which is 100 times faster than average broadband connections. To ensure that they offer internet connectivity to rural and other unserved communities, NEFI builds and operates fiber optic networks independently to get the areas that other providers consider unprofitable. As it is, NEFI has installed cables that extend to over 500 miles, having joined hands with the local government and the electric cooperative. They are most easily achieved through the cooperative business model that enables the expansion rate to be faster and the ability to sustain low costs for residents and businesses as well. In an interview with the CEO of NEFI, Hannah James, the company is continuing to invest in the northeastern states and is comfortable being the choice of internet service provider for those who would like a high-speed and reliable connection no matter where they are located. It has been known to offer its staff, especially those that deal with the customers, to boast of a small-town attitude to customer service. As NEFI goes on to plan for infrastructure, it is their wish and the hope of those people in the Northeast that they should never again suffer from slow and erratic connections.
